School curriculum in Years 7, 8 and 9
In their first three years, students study English, Mathematics and Science. In addition, they will also study Performing Arts, Design and Technology, Physical Education, Humanities, Art and Design, Computer Science and Spanish. Our knowledge-based curriculum is rooted in helping students to develop their communication skills.

Art
This practical and creative subject will see students learn about contemporary and historical approaches in art and design as they develop techniques using a range of media, processes, and techniques in 2D and 3D. Themes and topics will explore food in art, city life and the environment, and metamorphosis/transformation.

Computer Science
As they discover the world of coding and computer systems, students will learn Python and JavaScript programming languages and develop their understanding of computer systems and networks. They will explore the issues of crime and cybersecurity, AI and machine learning and the art of data storage.

Drama
With a curriculum encompassing contemporary and historical approaches to theatre, students will learn to understand the theory behind dramatic techniques while developing their own creative skills and abilities. Themes include the art of slapstick comedy, theatre of the world and the dramatic techniques espoused by Brecht and Stanislavski as well as an in-depth exploration of Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’.

Design and Technology
This highly practical subject will enable students to learn the principles of design and manufacturing by creating items from timber, metals, and textiles. They will explore the techniques of technical drawing and use Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools to bring objects to life including a 3D printed clock. Students will take the first steps into product design learning about the principles of ergonomics, how to collect and analyse data and build prototypes.

Mathematics
Across a three-year period, students will develop their application of number skills and a range of ways of thinking mathematically. Topics will see the development of algebraic and fractional thinking leading to the development of reasoning techniques and construction in 2D and 3D.

Music
Students will learn to recognise tone, pitch, tempo, and rhythm and play chords and scales. They will develop their keyboard and piano skills and learn about the instruments that make up an orchestra. As well as developing their music performance skills, students will gain an insight into musical disciplines from jazz and blues to reggae and hip hop. They will study Hindustani Raga and gain a detailed appreciation of Beethoven’s ‘Fur Elise’ and ‘Carmina Burana’ by Carl Orff.

Phyiscal Education
Fostering a love of sport and physical activity, the curriculum enables students to improve their techniques in football, athletics, badminton, and basketball while also developing their knowledge of the theory and science behind physical movement. They will explore the physiology and anatomy of the human body and how sport psychology improves performance.

Science
The curriculum introduces students to a wide range of science disciplines including biology topics that explore cells, diseases, and organ systems. They will also explore energy and forces and get the chance to analyse chemicals and learn about their uses. Students will also uncover some of the secrets of the universe and our solar system.

Spanish
As well as gaining an understanding of Spanish grammar, students will learn to speak the language with confidence, exploring a range of topics from their home and school life, hobbies and leisure to food, technology, and global and social issues. Students will gain an appreciation for Spanish culture and learn about the Spanish capital city, Madrid.
